I took a deep breath and sigh to write this special post. TEN YEARS, huh? It has been an amazing ride with its ups and downs, but overall a very rewarding ten years.

When we opened Evelyn Brooks Designs, my husband and I, had in mind to create a business designing  jewelry pieces inspired by my Peruvian culture, following the latest trends while contributing to different social responsible programs.

Over the years things were shaping up and I even found more answers to continue growing my business and to continue showing the world the beauty of my country to my designs. I was able to work closely with a community in Pucallpa that has been providing the beautiful huayruros I work with for the past four years.

Many organizations helped me, and I will always be thankful for their work like Empowered Women International, The DC Fashion Foundation, The Anna Maria Arias Foundation, The Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, National Hispana Leadership Institute, National Hispanic Association of MBA’s,  Dialogue on Diversity as well as The Peruvian Embassy in Washington DC.  Its cultural attaché Dr. Flor Diaz helped us to be known in the most remarkable diplomatic while promoting the beauty of my country Peru.

Still remembering our 1st fashion shows, like MI CHIAMO EKA that I worked with my friend Ebong Eka, Dar Be Dar, DC Fashion Week to the latest ones Peru Fashion Night in Washington & New York; quite an experience. Every fashion show has helped me to do better and better.

I am extremely grateful with the local and international media coverage we’ve had. The Washington Hispanic, El Tiempo Latino, Latin Opinion, Telemundo, Buenos Dias DC, Univision Washington, The Washington Post, Washington Life Magazine, Modern Woman Magazine, Hispanic Living Magazine, Best Years Magazine, Latino Magazine, Latina Style Magazine among others and internationally when I got the call from Vogue UK, I was literally in tears.

We’ve made it this far with hard work and dedication. We remained in business  even when the recession hit us in 2008, and that is when I began to teach jewelry design at the Montgomery college, as well as to provide consultancy services to up and coming jewelry designers as well as work with the Peruvian government to motivate and inspire Peruvian artisans to get into the U.S. Market.

Our reps Clara Stryker in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Veronica Olarza in San Francisco, David Quincho in Japan, have played a key role in helping us bring Evelyn Brooks Designs to more points of sale as well as the museums, galleries and shops that carry our line and continue promoting my work.

With the support of the many organizations, media,  most importantly our dear customers that have come back for more and more jewelry designs and my TEAM, my interns, my assistant designers, etc;  who are part of Evelyn Brooks Designs and with whom we have been growing throughout the years.

We look forward to many more years, what comes next? We are planning to open our 1st retail space (fingers crossed) and sharing our SECRET it will happen, sooner than later;)
